This is a must see video of cziffra! He does a bunch of improv and basically shows off his skill while warming up. Note: This is amazingly not a performance but a filmed test of the piano. Thanks to busoniliszt, This is the breakdown of some pieces that he visits: 1) 1:27 Liszt - Scherzo & Marsch
2) 3:39 Chopin - Etude op. 10 nr. 1
3) 5:10 Chopin/Liszt - Chant Polonais (Madchens Wunsch)
Also there is a bit of Shostakovitch Op. 87 No. 7 discovered by nikkistride.
He absolutely rips chopin's etude op.10 no.1. from the keys. The rest, is the ability of a professional mind.

Improvvisation is not a collage of pieces. It is an elaboration, a development of a theme.
Here there is no improvvisaton, just a stew of different compositions from his repertory.
Cziffra is an astonishing pianist, but in that video he is not improvvising.

I agree with laurion69, this is not an improvisation. Cziffra can play the piano but this is just a lot of bashing about of themes he knows. Personally, don't like it.

If this is just a warm-up then we needn't judge it as a piece of music or even as improvisation. It's certainly neither music nor improvisation. It's rubbish. But that's okay for a warm-up
