Delarey Song - with English subtitles

Añadido por: Hansie0Slim
Descripción:
The popular and controversial song about the Anglo-Boer War, that has caused a public outcry in South Africa.
As the British tried to do a hundred years ago, the black majority government is now trying to suppress the Afrikaner nation's culture - and in fact all traces of their history.
Public funding is being withdrawn from Afrikaner monuments, even though Afrikaners contribute more than their share to tax income. Millions are being spent on changing the names of towns, streets etc. while little is done to maintain infrastructure.
The new generation of Afrikaners had nothing to do with Apartheid, yet they are faced with a bleak future, suffering under racial discrimination in the form of affirmative action.
Although this excludes them from jobs and promotion beyond a certain level, it also stimulates entrepreneurship and innovative thinking.
The Afrikaner nation will rise again to take its place in the country their forefathers helped to build and develop.

The Boers are still ... ( 1 month ago by Pinard7)
The Boers are still under a form of Afrikaner domination to this day complete with Afrikaner organizations attempting to inherit & control Boer monuments. Theuns Cloete of Boervolk Radio mentioned this in a December 2007 interview & I explored the Afrikaner domination of the Boers at my blog which you can view at the link on the profile page. There are Boers who have been struggling to regain their freedom since 1914 & periodically throughout the 20 cent right up to the present.

I think I he is trying to relate the plight of the Boers back then to the plight they are experiencing today which has manifested itself in the form of farm of attacks.

All peoples have made good and bad judgements over time. Go back far enough in time and almost all modern nations are the rsult of "settler states." No free man can watch this, know the history and not be moved.
An Afrikaansland ... ( 1 month ago by trokoro)
An Afrikaansland could be formed including just Western and Northern Cape where Afrikaans is the majority language.
Most Afrikaners from Eastern South Africa should emigrate to Western and Northern Cape.
The same way Lower Canada gave birth to QUEBEC, Western and Northern Cape will give birth to AFRIKAANSLAND, based not in race but in a common Afrikaans culture assimilating minorities as Quebec and America have been doing for decades.
This idea has ... ( 1 month ago by Pinard7)
This idea has already long since been proposed. But the main problem with it is that most of the "Afrikaners from eastern South Africa" are Boers or descendents of the Boers & if they were to migrate back to the Western Cape -an area they left starting in the late 1600s & all throughout the 1700s- they would find themselves even MORE under Afrikaner domination. The Boers would never find the self determination that they seek if they were to tether themselves to other Afrikaans speaking groups.
They will melt ... ( 1 month ago by trokoro)
They will melt eventually. Afrikaansland will be mainly a mulatto (mixed race) nation like most of Latin America, with Afrikaans as the official language the same way as Spanish is official language in Latin America. Many will also marry English-speaking whites from Cape Town contributing to the assimilation process.

Pinard - I want everybody who reads your very stipid comments to see it for what it is. The Afrikaners in the Cape were the FAMILY of the Boers of the Transvaal and Freestate. MANY OF THEM died either for treason in the Cape when helping Boer sodiers or side by side with them. The Cape Afrikaners sent crates and crates of goods to the concentration camps, with great difficulty. I have family members in the Cape, and we sure as hell ar FAMILY.People like you can only but only divide. Wake up.
O good grief ... ( 1 month ago by Pinard7)
O good grief Snippie123. You are confusing the issue entirely! The family of the Boers in the Cape WERE THE BOERS OF THE EASTERN FRONTIER! Not the Afrikaners of the Western Cape! My OWN Great Grandfather was a Boer from the eastern Cape who were often known as the Cape Rebels. I know all about the Boers of the eastern Cape. When I & others talk about the Cape base Afrikaner: we are talking about those Afrikaans speakers WHO ARE NOT FROM THE BOER PEOPLE: the people whom the Boers had their first.
The non-Boer ... ( 1 month ago by Pinard7)
The non-Boer descended Western Cape based Afrikaners -ie: the former Cape Dutch- are the people that the Boers had their first FREEDOM STRUGGLE AGAINST on the Cape frontier in 1795 when the Boers declared their first republics. Please understand that I AM NOT PROPOSING TO DIVIDE THE ACTUAL BOER PEOPLE! I am in NO WAY proposing the the Boers be divided based on where they might now live -as their are Boers all over Africa & much of the world now...
I am just pointing ... ( 1 month ago by Pinard7)
I am just pointing out the RELEVANT fact that any proposal of Boers moving to the Western Cape would TOTALLY COMPROMISE ANY ATTEMPT at Boer self determination because the Boers will be dominated by the non-Boer descended / Cape Dutch descended Afrikaner WHO DO NOT SHARE THE BOERS' culture & outlook. I am talking about the people who dominated the Broederbond & suppressed the Boers & their political aspirations. Various Boer patriots like Robert van Tonder & Theuns Cloete have WARNED about this.
But that was more ... ( 4 weeks ago by trokoro)
But that was more than a century ago. The World today is different and, not just different Boer tribes, but ALL the Afrikaans speakers should join to build an Afikaansland that could assimilate English (Anglos) and Xosha speakers into the majority Afrikaans communitiy, the same way Quebecois did in Lower Canada.
After all, Western and Northern Cape (AFRIKAANSLAND) is the only part of South Africa which can be considered part of Western Civilisation today.
Well I understand ... ( 3 weeks ago by Pinard7)
Well I understand the point you are making here as you are arguing that all of the Afrikaans speakers should "unite" & build a common autonomous region but there are a few essential points you overlook. 1. There is no real mandate among the various Afrikaans speakers to even do this as they are all quite distinct communities with their own cultures & dialects. The Cape Malays have a distinct religion as the are Muslims. 2. The dialects are distinct enough that any standardization of the...
The various ... ( 3 weeks ago by Pinard7)
The various Afrikaans dialects are distinct enough that any standardization of the language -which is sure to occur within a single collectivity- will come at the price of loosing the other distinct dialects. 3. The Boers are a proud people with a LONG history of struggling for self determination & any large scale Afrikaans association will come at the EXPENSE of the Boers just as it did to a significant extent during the 20th cent when the larger Cape Dutch were tethered to the Boers.
Furthermore you ... ( 3 weeks ago by Pinard7)
Furthermore you must remember that not only would the Boers be under Cape Dutch domination in the Western Cape but also they both would be under Cape Coloured domination as they are the majority population of the Northern & Western Cape with numerous Griquas in the Northern Cape. The example with Quebec is flawed as most of the French speakers share a common history & culture while the various Afrikaans speakers do not.
Just as the ... ( 3 weeks ago by Pinard7)
Just as the Quebecois & the Acadians both speak French but are entirely different cultures with different histories & use different flags. Under your thesis you would argue that the Acadians should move to Quebec while neglecting the cultural differences among them making such a move problematic particularly for the Acadians. It is for this reason why there are so many English speaking countries in the world but no one would argue that they must all move to America to find self determination.
There are so many ... ( 3 weeks ago by Pinard7)
There are so many other examples of nations who speak the same or similar languages who have decided to find self determination on their own - examples like: Romanians & Moldovans / Serbians & Croatians / Czechs & Slovaks / Canada & the United States (the Dixie region pursued secession until a war conquered them) rather than unite under a single umbrella due to cultural distinctions. There is no reason why the various Afrikaans peoples can not find self determination as distinct groups.

But as Theuns ... ( 4 days ago by Pinard7)
But as Theuns Cloete points out: the main problem is that the Afrikaner (ie: the political label as applied by the Cape Dutch & British) MUST be taken out of the Boer so that the Boers can get out from under Afrikaner / foreign domination / more fully regain their identity which aid in getting back their republics. The Boer will never be free again until they can take back their rights & SEPARATE themselves from the Afrikaners who -as a macro group- work against them.

Matkent obviously doesn`t know the farming community of southern Africa (the Boers). Those people were really poor, but took great care about their appearance. Clothes were very basic, but always clean, and the children always smelled of soap and water. Poverty doesn`t have to degrade people.

Even though they would eventually lose the war, you have to give the Boers credit. They handed the British Military the first real bloody nose they'd had since the war of 1812. Britain learned a valuable lesson from this.
