My trip to San Antonio Texas

In March 2006, I was able to go to a Prudential Convention in San Antonio, on my broker's dollar :) since I made it into the Leading Edge Society, which is an honor given by Prudential, to top producers. (it's not the top, top, but close enough for me :) We got extra photo ops & banquets for any awards or designations we had earned the previous year.
This is a slide show of the River Walk, downtown area and some of our event stuff. I had to leave out a lot though. But I fell in love with the River Walk and the architecture. I hope you enjoy this presentation.

This part of the river stays pretty low-key.
Not too many of the tourist know about it.
My friends tell me Daytona is awesome, I imagine you get a little more noise tha S.A. because of the GREAT PARTY Dest. Reputation.
I hope visit there soon.
BTW... I saw your Smarter Daughter Video.
You Guys are HALARIOUS! What a FUN Family!

Actually, Daytona's not really the party destination anymore, except for a few special events. The city has spent about the last 12 years changing the cities image. The first step was running MTV out of the Spring Break scene. Basically, take away the party events and the partiers go somewhere else.
And thanks. My kid's pretty awesome. =P I think the 2 most recent ones are funnier though ;)

Compared to NY and Houston, it's definitely more laid back! I live in Daytona Beach, and when I visited San Antonio, one of the things I noticed is how similar it is to Daytona. The climate was the same (except for the missing ocean breezes), and the cost of living is similar. But SA has a much larger downtown and historic buildings. I loved the old building!

I don't think so. I took the tour with a friend who was majorly interested in the history. I like history, but we had other things planned and I was getting impatient. Plus the place was packed. We would have had to wait in another line. So I got out as soon as possible. =/

I'm sorry you're homesick. But I guess that means I captured the essence of the city =) I really loved it there. I walked for miles, up and down the streets, just to take these pictures. I love architecture.

Not frustrating at all, really. I'd be bored to death living in a small town like Boerne. Plus, the commute from Boerne into SA can be a nightmare. And I'd commute all the time, because Boerne doesn't have enough of the things that interest me, much less the kind of work I do.

Uh... If you think SA doesn't have enough to do for a 2nd trip, think again. You didn't go to Brackenridge Park--which has the zoo. You would have loved the McNay Art Museum, a former mansion with stunning grounds and an excellent collection of modern art. What about the Botanical Gardens? Did you go to any of the other missions? Four others are to the south of downtown. Did you take a look at the aqueduct built by the Spaniards, that's still in use? I don't have space to list more!

Okay, I'm one of the strange San Antonians, apparently, who goes downtown sometimes. The library is excellent (if nothing else, check out the Chihuly sculpture!). I also like to drive around and walk around, looking at the buildings and people. There's a hot dog joint on Commerce that's awesome.
That said, I rarely go to the Riverwalk! I don't think I've been in 4 or 5 years, at least, and that was to check out the Xmas parade.
Never been to Fiesta, either.

Actually, it's affordable to live here. It's anywhere from 10-30% cheaper than living in any other top 10 city.
Housing is cheap. $800-$1000 will get you a nice 2 BDR apartment. A pre-owned home in a nice north side suburb will cost about $125K. New homes, of course, will run more. The lowest I've seen on the "hot" north side is $140K. How much up depends on you.
Utilities are cheap. Food is cheap. Most restaurants aren't expensive. But a car is just about a necessity.
