Is the Zippy BugE in production? If so, where can you get one? If not, are there any plans for production for retail sales?
Thanks.

Yes. Look for Harvey Coach Works in Knoxville, Maryland, and ElectroMotionDesign in Eugene, Oregon. If you go to the Blue Sky Design website, you can contact them for updates.

This will revolutionize car accidents in a way that running over someone walking a dog on a leash could not.

Wow, that doesn't look dangerous at all! A rear end accident in that thing would be tragic...I'll keep my hummer!

Motorcycles are incredibly dangerous. I'd never drive one in traffic.
It will never ... ( 7 months ago by sterlinghowell73)
It will never happen. Vehicles like this are only practical under very specific circumstances. They aren't capable of cross country travel, and they have no room whatsoever for payload, gear, etc. They only carry one person, they'd be worthless in the snow, and they simply aren't very substantial (not even remotely safe).
There will always be larger vehicles on the road. Trucks and multiple person passenger vehicles are a fact of life. Mixing it up with them in one of these is nuts.

Actually most of the driving we do are one passenger short trips < 40 miles and this is great for that with gas at 4$ a gallon. It should be safer than a scooter do to three wheels. I actualy do agree with you that something needs to protect the rider from rear intrusions and I might build one with a hoop in back (shouldn't be difficult) and that would offer some roll over protection as well. Its not a highway vehicle and your hummer will squish under a Peterbuilt too.

I don't actually have a Hummer...I said that for effect...I drive a Toyota Tacoma and my wife has a Yukon.
I'd stand a much better chance of surviving a tangle with a Peterbuilt in my wife's Yukon than I would in a Prius...size (mass) is everything in a collision.
I drive a Pontiac ... ( 6 months ago by Jamesbowman777)
I drive a Pontiac Gran Prix 26 miles to work one way 8 miles could be highway but do to massive semitrucks I usually avoid it. It's probably safer on the urban route in the Bug-E that shouldn't be taken on a highway, rather than in the Pontiac on the highway. Do not only the vehicles with much greater mass, but even more important much greater velocity. Energy is a function of mass x (velocity squared) making a small increase in speed create a disproportionate increase in destructive energy.

You're right, E=VRT. That said, all things being equal, I'll take the larger vehicle in a collision.

Motorcycles aren't ... ( 4 months ago by BugEBuilder)
Motorcycles aren't dangerous when driven as intended. What's dangerous are inattentive and distracted drivers who feel that their cell phone conversations, lunches, CD players and make-up are more important than the lives of the pedestrians, cyclists and others that they encounter along the road.

I have had one of Marks other designs (Gizmo) for over 5 years. It is not intended to replace your typical family car but is a great "runabout" with sufficient amenities for errands or to deliver a person to their destination. Add to that, a penny per mile and the fact that ownership is optional and I fail to see what reason there could be to resist such a product. Peace.
