In all fairness to Trinite33, Callas herself would spend long hours listening to singers she despised or found laughably awful because she could "learn from their mistakes"
I am thankful every time I see somone defending Maria with tooth and nails as twistedsword does, but I must congratulate you for your steady and intelligent response. Every artist must learn like a sponge and Maria was the first to learn from her rivals and from singers who made her laugh. I could tell a story heard personally at second hand about that, but space runs out. Good luck.

Did your Edward see Maria's "Medea" in Florence/Milan/Rome/Dallas/London or Milan '61. The supreme recording (conducted by Bernstein in 1953 and now an EMI classics is one of the most astonishing recordings ever made, hard to believe by the same singer who made the official recording in 1957 with Scotto. Hunt down that Callas Bernstein recording. You will never regret it.
