Yes, it's hard to accept, but when we're young we believe not to need anybody and we do whatever we like, but when we will be old?
I think that it's better catching the chances when they comes, because maybe we will say "on my god if I would have done this when I could...." I'm still young that' why I think so but it is imporant to respect the others.

Ok this dude just ripped off a theme from rachmaninoff and the chord progressions and changed the rhythm, I mean damn if you want to take the theme fine but at least be more creative with it?

Fine, then in that case I would call it his "reaction" to that movement of that particular concerto, adding words to a melody in it to describe his own pathetic love life.
You can see it in his eyes.
Still this song is always great for comedic effect in the musical context when you need it.

No, rachmaninoff was a russian classical music composer and practically every single melody in here is from his second piano concerto, 2nd movement.

Apparently you don't know anything about Classical music or the Russian composers. Why else would you dare to compare Rachmaninoff to Christopher Cross. Cross was a mere pop artist; while Rachmaninoff was one of the greatest composers of all time. Rachmaninoff is also the major source for the score to the movie Somewhere in Time that starred Christopher Reeves and Jane Seymour.

I dont think it is a great song, but from what I've read, the concerto was Eric Carmens favorite piece, all categories. He wrote the song in admiration, and they still do new recordings of it, so someone has to like it. If you can laugh at it, it may be to some use even for you :)
