I draw most of my things like this illustration, black & white, with ink and pencil, but my teachers at school tell me "thats not right, it will look finished with colour". Drives me up the wall.

don't listen to them =) being able to draw properly in black and white with shading to resemble a proper picture is harder than simply colouring in some cases =p

pat catans, michaels, joann fabrics...
if you do this technique make sure the ink is waterproof to prevent smearing. this is the technique i usually use.. but for highlights i use white acrylic paint and smudge it in with my thumb so its blended into the watercolor more and not as rough.

I use prismacolor sketching pencils and I bought an $8 handheld Staedtler battery powered sharpener and it works really well, gives a nice clean point.

In what time does that Triceratops live? because in times of dinosaurs there was no grass, So I hope its not not in some book (paleontology)about dinosaurs. Watch out for those datails.
