Spanish have given to the world lesser composers compared to South Americans... and don't come up with Rodrigo, Segovia or De Falla. They're all known just for beign Europeans

I think John Williams really righted a wrong when playing Barrios. Segovia's jealousy of Barrios drove him to do everything within his power to keep Barrios's great works out of public knowledge. It is great that John Williams decided to actively promote them.

I don't think Segovia was jealous, I think he was dismissive though and felt Barrios leaned more toward traditional folk than a more formal classical style. At the time, Segovia was trying to lift the prestige of guitar playing from the realms of folk (pop music as we would consider it today) and establish it as a legitimate instrument where the cello, violin, organ and piano ruled with iron fists.

and before Tarrega was Fernando Sor, Niccolo Paganini, Mauro Giuliani. Vivaldi also wrote some guitar concertos. Ferdinando Carulli also has a nice guitar concerto. Tarrega is certainly important to classical guitar history though; you're right about that. However, he's not the single most important factor for modern classical guitar; I think Segovia deserves that (with the Romeros and Barrios perhaps second in line).
