I cannot at all condone Pound's fascist politics. But he does make an excellent point about modern society- that we are developing into a society where money becomes an object in and of itself and is no longer linked to the things that are able to be purchased by it.
But, this is no reason to hate all Jewish people, and I have to again emphasize how wrong he was about that. Still, great poet.

An economy built on debt is a rotten black disease. Pound was right about this much. This is one of the greatest and in my opinion most relevant poems of the 20th century. A modern Jeremiad in the mouth of a complex, perhaps mad human being. To merely label Pound as an anti-semite falls short of what he was really about.

I'm not an American, I am referring to comments he made not necessarily in this particular video- and I hate that Pound and others like him are worshiped by people who think any incomprehensible, insane ravings by some nut must be profound and that anyone who disagrees is a moron. I don't think anyone who doesn't admit that Pound was indeed a genius is a moron, I never said that. But I admire him, besides because of his beautiful, profound and original style of making art (you should check other pieces, like "Sestina: Altaforte", for example), for all the evil he denounced, all the Western Capitalism's misdeeds, and for he chose to believe what he wanted to believe and live his entire life according to these believes.
By the way, he was not insane at all!!!

Thanks for the reasoned reply. I'll check out the piece you mentioned. IMO Pound's comments and attitudes are racist and inexcusable and for me far outweigh + tarnish any literary or poetic merit or originality of style. I understand the influence he had on the world, I just dispute it's value. A true genius would recognize the complexity of the issues rather than blaming a vast Zionist conspiracy on the world's problems. I live my life according to my beliefs, denouncing evil -so I'm a genius?

They didn't automatically put you in an asylum just for dissenting opinion, although there may be something to what you are saying- many people were institutionalized wrongly. I think the question is, did it happen because of Pound's opinions, his behavior or his writing/poetry or some other reason? Please also bear in mind that in many other countries even up to today Pound would have been killed for expressing himself as freely as he did. Perhaps you are too hard on the Americans?
