Amazingly relevant. Our 'moral leaders' don't seem to question much. The consequences are devastating as has been noted.

For all posters, Please check out MLK's speech entitled, "Why I Am Opposed to the War in Vietnam", posted by noncorporatenews. Listen to it in it's entirety. He is litterally speaking from the grave.. It's a crime that MLK is only remembered by his "I have a Dream" speech and not his other works.

I noticed the exact same thing. We like to make King an icon without taking him seriously. Men like King seem to refuse to be icons though, but iconoclasts who make us uncomfortable because we NEED to be made uncomfortable.

The real reason why he was killed. America was happy with his passive aggressive but when he dared to question the war and the politics of war, he had to go. MLK in his latter days is the MLK I respect and adored.

America on a whole is still too arrogant.
How long has it been since MLK told them they were arrogant, that they still don't get it.
Note: Most Americans who are watching this video and reading this comment are most likely not arrogant and my comment is not attacking you.

Don't even compare ... ( 8 months ago by misterpatrickstar)
Don't even compare Martin Luther King Jr to Wright. Martin Luther King Jr. followed the way of truth and love not hate and angry.Rev. King was a Christian, not a believer in black liberation theology. James Cone, an architect of black liberation theology, and a mentor of Obama's pastor Rev. Wright has described their theology thusly: "Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community..."
DR. King had real moral courage unlike Wright.

I didn't say Wright was not a Christian. What I said he follows the black liberation theology which Dr. King didn't. Black liberation theology states: "Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy...the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal."
PLUS Can anyone imagine Dr. King "humping" a fake Monica Lewinsky during a sermon with children present to mock clinton & further obama run.
Pat Robertson, an ... ( 8 months ago by ct91rs)
Pat Robertson, an architect of the evangelical movement stated,
"The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians."
This statement is at best wholly inaccurate and at worst completely insane. There are many strands of feminism, even a conservative one.

I would like to know one member of the feminist movements that is advocating women slaughter their children.
I certainly would not claim that every evangelical that has been influenced through his massive media empire believes half of the asinine statements he makes, but if you feel you have the right to judge Wright on the basis of "selective statements" of his mentor, that's hypocrisy for you to deal with.
A actual statement ... ( 8 months ago by ct91rs)
A actual statement by Rev. Wright,
"The African-centered point of view does not assume superiority, nor does it assume separatism. It assumes Africans speaking for themselves as subjects in history, not objects in history...nor does it mean superior or inferior. The whole notion of hierarchical, one's superior, we must be separate because we're better, that has absolutely nothing to do with..."
Your accusations are unfounded, and I wish this did not turn into an Obama thread.

Moses went to the mountaintop and God showed him the promised land. However, he never got there himself.
Dr. King is saying here that God has shown him that the future will be better than what he wa living in. Equal rights would come, and it did not matter if he lived to see them, because God had already shown him the "promised land."
Hope that helps.

Wright can say and do whatever he wants. I really don't care .I am just saying that Martin Luther King jr. was different. The comparison of the two is what I had issue with. MLK had a different view and was very active in anti-war demonstrations,so its not a fair comparison that some people make. MLK followed the path of nonviolence in the spirit of Gandhi. I really don't care about rev. wright. He can do whatever...They are not similar so its not fair to see them on the same plane.

I will give you the part with Clinton. But, I think that there is a valid comparison between King & Wright. Perhaps, the way some things are stated become confusing. James Cone states "being black in America has very little to do with skin color. To be black means that your heart, your soul, your mind, and your body are where the dispossessed are...[It] does not mean that one's skin is physically black.1" It is a matter that God is with the disposessed in face of unjust opressive structures.
It's a reference to ... ( 8 months ago by jmitchB3)
It's a reference to Moses, who was taken up to the mountain top to VIEW the Promised Land (Canaan). Moses wasn't allowed to ENTER because of his disobedience, but God allowed him to VIEW the land before he died. So MLK's metaphor was about the promised land of Equality & Justice. He knew his time was up- he felt that he would soon be dead... but at least he saw (in the spirit) the promised land of equality and justice. Peace. :)
